«New studies in ethology and biology show that nonhuman animals have complex inner lives, cultures, friendships and even languages. They are individuals with their own perspective on life, and their lives matter most to them. Using animals for experiments is therefore morally wrong. It is also no longer necessary, because alternatives are available, of which the results are more reliable (see for example https://brill.com/view/title/35072). We should instead invest in alternatives – for science and for the animals.»
